Trina Speaks Out After Receiving Backlash For Calling Protesters 'Animals'

Trina has backtracked on her initial comments about Black Lives Matter protestors.

On Wednesday (June 3), the 45-year-old rapper came under fire after she spoke out on her radio show about the ongoing BLM protests in Miami. “They need to make the curfew at 6 pm to 6 am, that’s how I feel. Keep everybody off the streets, these animals off the streets … acting like they escaped from a zoo," she said. "Lock them up at 5 p.m., so the streets can be nice and clean.”

Instead of issuing an apology, the "Single Again" rapper chose to deny that she called protestors animals, saying that she was not referring to those protesting the murder of George Floyd, but rather those destroying property.

"I'm not going to say black people are animals," she said on her radio show on Thursday (June 4). "I didn't say, 'all of my people.' I'm not talking to the protestors those that are trying to make change." Trina added, "This is why the day after when we spoke to the commissioner, I said to Trick [Daddy], 'I learned a lot more about what is happening because I'm trying to understand what is the solution. What is the answer to everything that's happening."

Despite damaged property being the reason she called people "animals" in the first place, the Miami native said she wasn't upset over the damaged property in her hometown. "I was speaking from things that I saw," Trina continued. "I'm not calling nobody's color or anything. ... I would never call black people animals or any names. I am a black person."
